So I am more bemused than alarmed when reading this book. Among many gloom and doom predictions: To ask other readers questions about Aftershockplease sign up. I suppose that there is still time, and I don’t want to give the impression that everything is smelling of roses, but perhaps the take away is that the success of Aftershock is more about marketing for its authors than about economic prediction relevant to readers.
Here’s to the new world to come. Even better, they could simply fix the prime rate and do away with speculation altogether. But the fact that they specifically do NOT predict hyper cash-in-a-wheelbarrow inflation or, you know, blood running in the streets gave my spirits rather a lift.

Use wisdom when discerning what the media says about the state of the economy, especially when an economic “pundit” says something is “guaranteed” to perform either toward an upward or downward trendwhile the stats are inconsistent with the respective index. The book suggests selling stocks, buying gold, selling ‘extra property’, etc. Aftershock is a superb exegesis of how our damaged economy is in for further difficulties. As I am somewhat skeptical of human nature, the book’s rosy portrayal of an imagined long-term future seems to be more a work of creative fiction to me, leaving me to wonder just what kind of anarchy will really take place.
It is a band aid for living in a failing system. They focus on housing, stock markets, private debt, spending, dollar, and government debt. Instead, attershock are moving through uncharted territory, with new challenges and opportunities that few people can anticipate. Unfortunately, I think it can also scare the financial pants off anyone who has a basic understanding of economics.
